Acrostic Poem Frogs

To create an acrostic poem 

follow these five easy steps:

  1. Decide what to write about.

  2. Write your word down vertically.

  3. Brainstorm words or phrases that describe your idea.

  4. Place your brainstormed words or phrases on the lines that begin with the same letters.

  5. Fill in the rest of the lines to create a poem.

  6. An acrostic poem is a poem that uses the first letter from each consecutive line of verse to form a word, phrase, or sentence.

  7. The poem does not have to rhyme or have a specific meter, although if you are a very skilled writer, your acrostic poem may have both!

1st Grade OBJECTIVE:

Students will learn what an Acrostic Poem is and how to create one.

1. Give Objective:  Create an Acrostic Poem utilizing blends. 

You have been talking about Blend Words in your classroom.  You read a poem using the FR blend.  Can you give me a FR blend word from the poem?  

The River Frog

Down by the river lives a frog. 

His skin gleams green and gray.

He sits and croaks upon his log,

And clamps his jaws

On flies all day.

2. Ask what is an Acrostic Poem?
