HIBERNATION

To create an acrostic poem

follow these five easy steps:

  1. Decide what to write about.

  2. Write your word down vertically.

  3. Brainstorm words or phrases that describe your idea.

  4. Place your brainstormed words or phrases on the lines that begin with the same letters.

  5. Fill in the rest of the lines to create a poem.

  6. An acrostic poem is a poem that uses the first letter from each consecutive line of verse to form a word, phrase, or sentence.

  7. The poem does not have to rhyme or have a specific meter, although if you are a very skilled writer, your acrostic poem may have both!
